MISSION STATEMENT

The Committee of the Williamstown Cannons Basketball Club Inc recently agreed on the following Mission Statement for the club:

"To provide and promote a safe and fun recreational basketball program for children between the ages of 6 and 17. To encourage good sportsmanship and teamwork. To develop playing and athletic skills, and to promote friendly relationships among the players, coaches and parents."

PLAYER, PARENT, COACH & SPECTATOR ETIQUETTE

Recently, there have been reports of unacceptable incidents during Cannons matches. If you have not familiarised yourself with our Codes of Conduct, we kindly request that you do so. These are available on the “Forms” page of this website.

The Cannons are in the process of working with ABBA to understand the formal processes for managing inappropriate behaviour on and off the court. This information will be relayed to all coaches and team-managers, the aim being to provide them with direction in how best to maintain a safe playing environment for our players.

For those watching your children play: if you do have any concerns, please bring them to the attention of your coach in a timely manner. You may also contact any of the Cannons Committee if you feel your issues are not being addressed.

We also ask that parents of non-playing children ensure that they behave in an appropriate manner.

RULES OF BASKETBALL

The club understands that not everyone is familiar with the rules of basketball.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR TEAM MANAGERS

Pease take the time to read some important messages from the Committee regarding this season and beyond:

Scoresheets: It is imperative that all players sign on the reverse side of the score-sheet. This is the only part of the sheet ABBA check when determining whether or not a player has qualified for the finals. Note: The name of the coach must be printed on the front of the score-sheet in the appropriate spot, or the team receives a fine from the association!

"WORKING WITH CHILDREN" CHECKS

Working With Children: The club is now being fined if a team does not have a coach/person present with a WWC check. The only requirement is that the WWC person's name be printed on the front of the scoresheet. If you have a WWC and can help out, please contact the club secretary (see Contacts page for details).

The Williamstown Cannons are committed to providing the safest possible environment for our children to participate in the game of basketball. It is now a legal requirement that all coaches have a "Working With Children" card (WWC). For those already in possession of a WWC , and needing to add ABBA and/or the Williamstown Cannons to their details, the steps are as follows:

1. Download this form and print off the 2 pages at this link:
